Body Contouring - 6 sessions: What to Do After Each Treatment
By North Central Massage & Aesthetics | October 29, 2026
My most important rule after each 60-minute body contouring session is simple: treat the first 24 to 48 hours like recovery time. Mild swelling, bruising, or numbness can be normal, so I want you hydrating in Phoenix’s dry air, taking it easy, and skipping heavy workouts and hot baths for a day or two. If you’re wearing compression or I’ve recommended lymphatic work, follow that plan closely.
Quick reassurance: It’s common to feel tender, a little puffy, or slightly numb right after body contouring. Most people can get back to normal daily life quickly, but your results depend on what you do between sessions as much as what happens on the table.
First 24 to 48 hours: the body contouring rules that matter most
Right after your session, I’m thinking about two things: keeping inflammation calm and supporting healthy fluid movement. Your appointment includes some lymphatic massage techniques, so your aftercare is really about not undoing that work.
Do this today
- Hydrate extra. In Phoenix, the desert air pulls water out of you fast, and hydration helps your body process post-treatment swelling.
- Keep movement gentle. Easy walking is great. It usually helps you feel less “stiff” afterward.
- Use cool comfort. If you feel sore or puffy, a cold compress for 10 to 15 minutes at a time can help. Don’t freeze your skin.
- Follow compression guidance if I advised it for your area. Consistency matters more than perfection.
Skip this for now
- No heavy lifting the day of treatment. Give your body a quiet window to settle.
- No strenuous exercise for 24 to 72 hours. If you tend to swell easily, lean closer to 72 hours.
- Avoid hot tubs, saunas, and very hot baths for 48 to 72 hours. Heat can increase redness and swelling.
- Don’t schedule midday outdoor heat right after treatment. If you’re walking around Downtown Phoenix near Roosevelt Row, keep it shaded and hydrate.
If you’re sore enough that you want to “dig into it, ” don’t. That urge is normal, but aggressive self-massage too soon can irritate tissue. If you want extra support, I often recommend booking an additional lymphatic massage session post treatment so we can keep things moving gently and on purpose.
Days 3 to 7: how I want you treating the area between sessions
Once you’re past that first 48-hour window, most people feel more normal. This is the phase where consistency pays off. Keep thinking “support, don’t stress.”
My week-one priorities: steady hydration, comfortable compression if you’re wearing it, and light movement most days. Your body does a lot of “processing” during this time.
Sweat and heat: ease back in
After 72 hours, you can usually return to your normal workouts as long as you feel good and swelling is calming down. Start at a lower intensity. Phoenix heat is no joke, so if you’re exercising outdoors, aim for cooler hours and double down on water.
Lymphatic support: gentle is the point
If I’ve recommended lymphatic massage after your body contouring appointment, don’t wait until you feel “backed up.” This is proactive care. I’m close to Roosevelt Row and the Convention Center, so it’s easy to pop in for follow-up even if you’ve got events or a busy schedule downtown.
The simple habits that protect body contouring results across 6 sessions
A 6-session plan works best when you treat it like a series, not six separate appointments. I want your body calm and consistent so each hour we spend together stacks on the one before it.
Hydration that actually counts
Don’t just chug water the day of your appointment. Drink steadily throughout the week. If you’re coming in from Tempe, Scottsdale, Mesa, Chandler, Glendale, or Paradise Valley, pack water for the drive too. Dehydration tends to show up as more soreness and slower “settling.”
Compression: wear it the way we agreed
If compression is part of your plan, it should feel supportive, not painful. Too tight can cause more irritation. Too loose doesn’t do much. If you’re unsure, tell me and I’ll help you troubleshoot fit and wear time.
Track changes like a real person
Take photos in the same lighting once a week, not daily. Daily checking makes normal swelling feel like “no results.” Over six sessions, week-by-week is where you’ll see the story.
If you want a bigger-picture read on what body contouring is designed to do, I wrote a separate post on body contouring services in Downtown Phoenix. It helps you set realistic expectations before session one, not after session four.
Results timing in a 6-session body contouring plan (and why patience wins)
Most people don’t see the “final” look immediately after a session. Early on, you might notice temporary puffiness and then a gradual settling. That’s normal. Across six sessions, visible changes tend to show up little by little, then feel more obvious when you compare week-to-week photos or how clothes fit.
Key insight: Aftercare affects how smoothly your body calms down between sessions. When you hydrate, avoid heat too soon, and support lymphatic flow, you usually feel better faster and stay consistent enough to get the most out of the full bundle.
I also want you to know I take comfort seriously. People regularly tell me they leave sessions feeling “lighter” and “more balanced.” That matters, because when you’re comfortable, you’re more likely to stick with the plan and keep your follow-up care simple.
When to text or call me after body contouring (normal vs not normal)
I want you to reach out if something feels off. Mild tenderness, mild swelling, light bruising, or a numb feeling can happen after body contouring. Those symptoms should gradually improve, not ramp up.
Usually normal
- Tenderness that eases day by day
- Mild swelling or puffiness for a couple of days
- Light bruising, depending on your body
Call me right away
- Increasing pain that isn’t settling
- Worsening redness or redness that spreads
- Fever
- Any unusual discharge or anything that worries you
I come to Phoenix periodically. And I see Melissa every time I’m here. Melissa is truly a healer. I have never said that about anybody else. Do yourself a favor and book with her!
